It’s been nearly six years since the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act was passed and Louis Gohmert still thinks that it’s going to be used to arrest ministers for preaching the gospel and criminalize Christianity in general.
The government will eventually use the hate-crimes law, he said, to charge Christians who quote the Bible with “hate speech.”
“I mentioned some years back that hate crimes, eventually, somebody is going to bring that up when a Christian says, ‘I believe what Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, the life, nobody goes to the Father but through me,”’” Gohmert said. “That is hate speech. You’re saying that nobody else but you goes to Heaven? That’s hate speech. I mean, this is where it ultimately goes if we’re not free to say what we believe and have disagreements about it without being shot.”
So what’s the holdup, Louis? We’ve had more than five years of this law already, during a time when, according to you, the White House is occupied by a Marxist who wants to destroy Christianity and is probably the Antichrist. What’s he waiting for, Louis? And by the way, there is no such thing as hate speech as a legal matter and the hate crimes law did not change that.
See, when you make these predictions and they don’t come true, at some point you ought to just admit that you were full of shit. You said the same thing in 2009 and predicted that preachers would be frog-marched out of the pulpit en masse. There is not a single case of that happening, nor could there be because the law does not allow anything remotely like that. How long before you admit that you were just spreading paranoid bullshit? Never, of course. Being a far-right paranoiac means never having to admit you were wrong about anything. You simply move on to the next tall tale of impending doom and none of your followers will notice because they are as disconnected from reality as you are.
